Treasure Island is more laidback, more Old Florida, than Clearwater Beach. Here you'll find a three-mile shoreline bordered by wide beaches, and a quaint, kitschy, even retro feel.
You want sparkling, white, soft sand and lots of it? Treasure Island’s St. Petersburg Municipal Beach is a 500 foot wide beach with green, grassy dunes and clear blue waters.
Always clean and beautifully maintained, St. Petersburg Municipal Beach is the proud winner of a Blue Wave Award for its awareness of environment and safety, so you can blissfully comb the beach without stepping over the occasional tin can or broken bottle.
The largest of Treasure Island's beaches, St. Petersburg Municipal Beach is also a full-service beach with a snack bar, playground, beach volleyball courts, full shower and changing facilities, and enough parking to keep dads, moms, and kids in their best beach bumming moods. And, this beach has beach wheelchairs, available at no charge by prior arrangement!
Get up early to power walk, jog, or ride the mile long, paved boardwalk that runs along the upper edge of the shore.
Kite-fliers also choose Treasure Island for its strong, Gulf sea breeze. You can send up your own kite or watch the local collection of colorful kites dance and soar.
Sunset Beach, on the southern end of Treasure Island, has a unique vibe that's popular with Europeans, young people, families and it is gay-friendly.
For shopping, head to Gulf Boulevard, where you can find a plethora of beachy shops. If the whole atmosphere is feeling a little Key West-ish, and you like that, know that one of the Southernmost City's favorite bars - Sloppy Joe's - has opened a new watering hole here in the Bilmar Beach Resort.
Families shouldn't miss a visit to the nautically themed John's Pass Village and Boardwalk, just over the bridge into neighboring Madeira Beach.
